It’s Not Just For the Elderly: Why You Should Write a Will and Lasting Power of Attorney

17th December 2025 at 11:30 on Zoom

When people think about writing a will or setting up a lasting power of attorney, they often imagine it’s something to do much later in life or only when serious illness is involved. But life doesn’t always give us a heads-up.

If you’re over 18 and have any responsibilities, finances, or even digital accounts, putting legal protections in place isn’t just wise; it’s responsible.

In this session, we’ll explore why planning ahead isn’t about expecting the worst. It’s about protecting your choices, your loved ones, and your peace of mind, at every stage of adulthood.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

• Explain the purpose of a will and what can happen if you die without one.
• Understand what a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is, the two main types (Health & Welfare / Property & Financial Affairs), and when each is used.
• Identify reasons why younger adults should consider creating a will and LPA early, not just in later life.
• Recognise key steps in setting up a will and LPA, including choosing executors and attorneys.
•Understand how these documents protect your assets, wishes, and loved ones, especially in unexpected situations.

A Deeper Dive into UK Taxation and Personal Allowances

25th February 2026 at 11:30 on Zoom

Most people think of tax as something that just ‘happens.’ But the UK tax system is full of rules, reliefs, and allowances that, when properly understood, can significantly impact how much of your income and investment returns you actually keep.

In this session, we’re going beyond the basics. We’ll take a closer look at the structure of UK taxation, how different types of income are taxed, the personal allowances available to you, and how to build tax-efficiency into your financial and investment decisions. Understanding how tax really works gives you more control, more clarity, and more confidence in your financial future.

• Apply tax-efficient strategies when planning or managing investments, including asset location and withdrawal planning

Money and Grief: How to Navigate Inheritance Wisely

29th April 2026 at 11:30 on Zoom

Inheritance is something many of us will experience at some point in life but rarely are we prepared for the emotional and financial impact it brings. Grief is a deeply personal process, and when it’s mixed with the responsibility of managing money, legal documents, or family expectations, it can feel overwhelming. Often, decisions around inherited money are rushed, delayed, or driven by emotion, not strategy.

In this session, we’ll explore how to navigate inheritance thoughtfully and wisely. We’ll talk about what typically happens when someone passes away, the financial and legal steps involved, and how to make sound decisions with inherited money — whether it’s a property, savings, investments, or other assets.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

• Understand the typical inheritance process in the UK, including probate, wills, and intestacy rules.
• Identify common financial and emotional challenges people face when receiving an inheritance.
• Recognise the importance of not rushing major financial decisions during periods of grief or transition.
• Explore options for using or investing inherited money wisely, aligned with long-term goals.
• Be aware of potential tax implications, such as inheritance tax (IHT) and capital gains tax, and where to seek professional advice.
