Health & Wellbeing Programme

An essential part of any Employee Benefits package should include comprehensive Health and Wellbeing provisions.

We know SME’s face many challenges. New business targets, increased competition, recruitment, retention and rapid growth, means that navigating the needs of your business can be all encompassing. However, a bigger challenge you face is how to look after your people.

A person’s job directly affects their overall health and happiness. This has a significant impact on a company’s success. Unhappy and unhealthy employees can struggle with performance and productivity, motivation, enjoyment, engagement, and loyalty.

Also, in our increasingly busy and often stressful lives, increased NHS waiting times for treatments, fewer appointments and cost of living rises, means that it is even more important than ever to support the well-being needs of employees. They power businesses and are vital for growth.

This is why Bigmore Benefits have created our very own Centre of Wellbeing which encompasses all essential parts of an employee’s wellbeing:

Emotional Wellbeing

The ability to be aware of and understand your emotions and behaviours, and those of others, is key to successful relationships and productive teams.
When we experience a challenge in life, how are we managing the subsequent emotions to ensure those challenges are met in the best possible way?

Mental Wellbeing

One in four individuals will suffer mental health challenges in the UK each year. There are many factors that can trigger these challenges and it’s important to understand that everyone’s threshold is different.
Without effective support, mental health conditions can greatly affect a person's day to day life. Understanding our triggers and creating a positive lifestyle can be essential to manage our mental wellbeing.

Physical Wellbeing

It has often been said that a healthy body is a healthy mind. An employee’s physical wellbeing is crucial to their satisfaction and can have a direct impact on a company’s success.
Physical health includes nutrition, sleep, hydration, exercise, sexual health, routine health checks, correct ergonomic work/study spaces. Happier and healthier employees tend to be more motivated and productive, producing better results in the workplace.

Financial Wellbeing

A lack of financial education, poor money management, and regular changes in financial matters such as rises in inflation, can leave individuals feeling ill equipped to deal with the day-to-day pressures.
Helping individuals to adopt healthy Financial Behaviours can be a catalyst to getting peoples life back on track, and preventing future challenges that may arise.

Social Connections

In the world’s longest study on human longevity, researchers from Harvard showed the number one factor in living a long life is the depth and quality of our Social Connections.
Positive relationships keep us happier, healthier, and help us live longer. Learning to understand and maximise each other’s strengths creates a happier working environment, and ultimately, a more productive and successful company.

Many companies are reactive in their approach to health and wellbeing rather than proactive.

This is mainly because most SME’s do not have the time or resources to develop and implement health and well-being initiatives. Nor do they have the expertise or specialist support to know what well-being measures to invest in, or even know where to find this support.

Whilst it’s great that Health and Wellbeing is now on many more company’s radars, the data shows that too many companies are taking a tick box approach to their wellbeing support. This often includes a wellbeing portal or digital support. Yes, these are useful tools, however, companies need to consider the unique needs of every individual. This might include the need for expert support from qualified clinicians & other professionals.
