A Lasting Power of Attorney protects you while you're alive.
That sums up the main difference between an LPA and a Will. Your Will is about what happens to your assets when you pass away. A Power of Attorney, whether financial or health and welfare, lets you decide who has the power to make decisions on your behalf should something happen to you which leaves you unable to do so.
Without one, your loved ones will be unable to take care of your affairs. Not parents, not children, not friends and not even spouses.
So it does beg the question, is an LPA more important than a Will? And what happens if you don’t have one?
